President- HYUNJIN CHO

My fellow Delegates, Student officers, Directors, and guests, it is my honor to serve you as the president of SOCHUM.

My first MUN experience started as soon as I moved to KIS, by the moment when I confidently registered for after-school KISMUN classes. However, soon I realized that it was not my thing. In the first debate of the MUN Advanced class, everyone seemed to know what they are supposed to be doing. Everyone gave great speeches and POIs, but I was not part of the debate. It was already exhausting by catching up with the flow of debate. Without much time to recover, I joined the second-day debate, still struggling.

Recalling back after experiencing several more MUN conferences, I believe those ‘struggling’ have made up the fundamental of achieving my MUN career. In other words, it means the 'passion' of tackling the debate simply with enthusiasm regardless of the result. I made it simple, to focus on my inner instinct. The passion aroused from the willingness to speak out my thoughts, and a little courage to speak out. It was neither perfect English, nor calculated POI that nobody can answer.

'Do not hide behind the wall of 'perfection'. There is no such 'perfection' in MUN. If so, why would delegates gather around a table for three days? The essence of MUN is the process of sharing different ideas and discussing for the most acceptable solution. Sometimes we forget it right away during the actual conference. We have to keep in mind that the solution for the good of international society always comes first.

Lastly, my primary reason for participating in MUN is the sense of accomplishment, confidence, and passion. Everyone probably would feel exhausted right after the three days of MUN, and I was no exception. However, I found confidence, which grows into the driving force to carry out other following tasks as well, and it is the key factor that keeps me fond of MUN. In KISMUN 2022, I am looking forward to sharing this wonderful experience with every one of you.

Delegates, the floor is now once again opened. It is time for you to experience your excellence!

Sincerely,

Hyunjin Cho,

Head Chair- YUNWOO LIM

Greetings to all privileged delegates, student officers, directors, and respective guests! I am Yunwoo Lim, and it’s beyond my greatest honor to serve you wonderful delegates as the Head Chair of SOCHUM, the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee, here in KISMUN2022.

To your surprise, my MUN career started just last year in 2021. I did participate in MUN after-school program in 2020, but I could not step up to participate in KISMUN 2020. I was just too overwhelmed by the solemn atmosphere and functioning of MUN. I felt like I had to make sharp POIs and proficient speeches in front of all those people without any mistakes. I felt like I had to beat those seemingly flawless speakers. However, one day, I just dared to participate in KISMUN 2021 and started to push myself beyond my limits. I researched. I raised my hand. I spoke up. I enjoyed. All of a sudden, I realized that the point of MUN is not to be the best speaker or to defeat somebody else in an argument. The true point of MUN is to learn from all participants, including yourself, by taking courage and challenging yourself. I deeply understand and relate that it is not an easy task to speak in front of other people. However, You do not need to be perfect. In fact, no one is perfect.

Tony Robbins once said, “Don't limit your challenges; challenge your limits. Each day we must strive for constant and never-ending improvement.” Delegates, give it a shot! Do not give up. Freely ask for help from me or any other secretariats, student officers, and LDP members. We are always on your side. You may get it wrong the first time and maybe the second time, but ultimately you will make growth. Remember that you are the new generation, the pioneer of this world.

Experience your excellence, delegates!

Sincerely,

Yunwoo Lim,

Head Chair of the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee, KISMUN 2022

Deputy Chair- SEO HYUN BAE

Honorable Delegates, Student Officers, and Guests

I am Seohyun Bae and it is my great honor to be serving you as a Deputy Chair of the Social Humanitarian and Cultural Committee. It has been four years since I attended the MUN conferences.

To be honest, my memory of MUN was not that good until 9th grade. I was too nervous and afraid to speak in front of numerous people. I couldn’t even speak well because I thought, "What if I say something wrong in front of people?”,“ What if I say something that does not even make sense?". And these concerns made me feel more anxious. I was very stressed out about making a speech so whenever I did debate, I just kept silent and listened to what other delegates said.

However, the turning point for me to overcome the anxiety of speaking in public was the KISMUN 2021. When I reached 10th grade, I saw all my friends around me serving as chairs. I felt that they were really cool and also wanted to become like them. At that time, I thought they became chairs so there is no reason that I couldn’t become a chair, too. Thus, I challenged myself to be a main submitter and took my courage to get up to the podium to take charge of the resolution that I wrote. I was so nervous at first, but as I kept talking, I found myself enjoying speaking in front of people. And I also noticed that no one can make a perfect speech without making any mistake.

Delegates, every person feels anxious about giving a speech in public. And nobody can be perfect. In particular, there is no right or wrong about an argument made during the MUN conference but I firmly believe that MUN is a process of making your argument right. In addition, the more you speak up, the more you become used to public speaking. Therefore, I look toward all the delegates to express opinions freely and take an interest in MUN.

I hope this KISMUN 2022 can be a time for you to really enjoy and improve. There's nothing you cannot do. Experience your excellence!

Sincerely,

Seohyun Bae,

Deputy Chair of the Social Humanitarian and Cultural Committee, KISMUN 2022
